Lookout Cider

A Non Alcoholic Cider that encourages safe drinking habits within friend groups.

Initial Sketches

Research in 2022 found that almost three out of ten UK adults (29%) felt concerned about someone else’s drinking in the last year. Lookout was created to help the people who have noticed that their friends have a drinking problem but don’t know how to approach or support them.

My solution was to create a non-alcoholic drink that encourages people to take care of one another whilst drinking. Lookout would be used to raise awareness of dependent drinking and spread the first few steps in the process of helping.

Once I had more of a concrete idea of what I wanted the brand and can to look like I began to experiment with colours, layouts and characters.

Flavours

Lookout’s four flavours were chosen by researching which fruits grow in Britain, as being able to use locally grown fruits in the production of the drink will reduce our carbon footprint.

The designs were inspired by the fruits in the drink using shapes and colour to visualise the flavour inside of the can to be as eye catching as possible. No matter where Lookout is placed on a shelf a set of eyes will be on the lookout for the next customer.

Character Design

With each flavour I thought that combining the two fruits in each drink together would lead to some interesting characters.

Advert Development

To promote the taste of Lookout Cider videos would be created for each flavour. The videos show the process of creating the drink and how the fruity combinations are so good they come alive.

Multipack Design

Lookout Cider would be sold in supermarkets as single cans aswell as part of a multi-pack with the packaging designed to look as though the cans are about to jump out of the box.

Lookout would also be available on tap in pubs. Bars are an important location for Lookout as the customers here are more likely to be our target audience who may know someone who needs help.

Brand Activation

Lookout’s goal is to help people feel comfortable and prepared enough to speak to a friend or family member if they believe they have a problem with their drinking.

This is a storyboard of a video that would be used to educate people on the signs to look for if they suspect a friend has a drinking problem and then provide advice on what to do next.
